Kahawatte in the Ratnapura District, one of the locations
rich in gem deposits is, where it all began. Guruge Gems was
found in 1970 by Mr. Jinadasa Guruge, who possesses 35 years
of active experience in the Gem Trade.
The great vision and the business acumen of the founder of
Guruge Gems has made a name for himself in the international
Gems industry, which influenced to expand and diversify the
group into the Hospitality industry in Sri Lanka.
The Peacock Beach Hotel, Hambantota was the first in line
of many to come. So far away from the concrete Capital Colombo,
so close to the wilderness and the beautiful seas, these facts
were not the only reasons to pick to build a Hotel in the
far away land of Hambantota, it’s the atmosphere, the
lowest Humidity levels in Sri Lanka for a dry zone is recoded
in this district. This comfortable sunny weather inspired
Mr. Guruge to build the first star class hotel followed by
a soothing family restaurant to cater to many travelers who
come to pay respects to the Katharagama God and his wilderness
